How to carry out pregnancy test
SERUM PREGNANCY TEST:
Aim: for the invitro qualitative detection of human chronic Gonadotropin (HCG) in serum.
Materials; Blood serum, specimen container, HCG test strip, timer.
Principle: The pregnancy test (PT) strip is embedded with specific anti-bodies to detect HCG hormone in the urine or blood serum with high degree of sensitivity. The labeled anti-bodies dye conjugate in the strip binds to HCG (antigens) in the urine or serum forming an antigen-antibody complex, thereby generating a visible red-colored line, on the test region of the strip .The test strip contains combination of goat/rabbit polyclonal antibodies and mouse monoclonal antibodies.
Procedure: the test strip was removed from the scaled pouch with arrows pointing towards the serum specimen. The strip was Immerse vertically in the serum specimen for at least 10-15 seconds. Do not pass the maximum line (MAX) on the test strip when immersing the strip. The strip was placed on a non-absorbent flat surface; the timer was started and waited for the red line(s) to appear. The result was observed after 5 minutes.
Results interpretation:-Positive, two distinct red lines appear one line in the control region (c) and another in the test region (T).Negative, One red line appears in the control region (C) with no apparent red or pink line appearing in the test region (T).
