Envy does not pay Once upon a time, there lived a man called Tanimu, he was a hunter who hunted and got what his family would eat every day. He has two wives, one called Nabila and the other called Mami. Nabeelah was very kind to all the people as well as the animals but they never had children and this condition was really a bad issue for the whole family. One day Nabeelah was very sick and weak to the extent that she can’t even talk, so Mr. Tanimu rushed her to the hospital, at the hospital, the doctor told Mr. Tanimu that his wife Nabeelah was four months pregnant, so Mr. Tanimu was very happy with this good news. So from that very day, Mr. Tanimu began to show Nabeelah a good care and always responded to all her needs but Mami was very sad for what her husband was doing to Nabeelah, so one day Mami told her best friend all her feelings about the pregnancy. Her friend said she knew how to handle the case. One afternoon, Ramatu brought some medical powder which is tight in a leather she said you should put this herbs in your co wife food and do not let anyone see or eat the food. she said wow my friend that’s why I really like you .so Mami cooked a delicious food for her co wife, she put it in a cooler and put some of the herbs, when she took it to her co wife’s room she said my sister, please you should eat this food all and don’t let anyone eat the food because it was meant for you alone. Nabeelah taught of what to do before eating the food because she knew all her co wife’s behavior, she then kept the food in her kitchen and closed it with a plate. After some hours, Mami watched to see if Nabeelah would be bleeding or dead, but nothing happened to Nabeelah. She then came and asked have u eaten the food and Nabeelah answered yes what’s wrong no-no nothing Mami stammered. After some time Nabeelah was about to give birth, so Mami went straight to her friend Ramatu and said Ramatu my friend please help me, I don’t know what to do, this woman is going to give birth soon but we have not done anything yet, please I need your advice, so her friend Ramatu said my friend stop crying, I know what to do…. (She stared at Mami and said) okay now, let us go to the nearest hospital, I have a friend called Kareemat, she is a practical midwife in the hospital so she can help us. When they reached the hospital, they told Kareemat what to do for them, and they said they have a lot of money to give her. When Kareemat heard about money, she suddenly accepted, so they gave her the sum of #500,000. When Mami had gone home she found Nabeelah in labor, Nabeelah said please my sister calls Tanimu, Mami get out she begged and begged but to no avail. Suddenly Mr. Tanimu got home and was shocked with the condition he found his loving and caring wife, he suddenly rushed her to the hospital without saying a word to Mami. Before Mr. Tanimu reached the hospital Mami had already reached the hospital, without wasting much time, they took Nabeelah into the delivery room. So Kareemat said to Mami and Rahmatu please you can go out. So Kareemat help Nabeelah to deliver her baby in the right way, after some few minutes, Nabeelah delivered a very beautiful and loving baby girl. Kareemat then went out to and looked at Mr. Tanimu and said congratulations, your wife has delivered a baby girl, Mr. Tanimu was very happy with this good news. But suddenly, Mami and Ramatu went to Kareemat and said why didn’t she perform the job she was paid for and she replied and said I cannot kill an innocent child and she returned back the money they gave her and they went away very angry. Mr. Tanimu took his wife and their lovely daughter home. After a week the child was named Aishatu and people gathered and celebrated with them. Relatives from far places came for the naming ceremony. After the naming ceremony, all their relatives and people that came went back to their various houses and Mr. tanimu was left with his wife’s and his new born daughter, but Mami was not still happy that her co wife has given birth. After one year Mami got pregnant and she was very happy that she is going to have a child too for Tanimu. She told her friend about the pregnancy and the news broke out and all the people in the village new about the pregnancy. After nine months it was her delivery time and she was taken to the hospital, immediately on reaching the hospital she was taken into the delivery room but she could not deliver by herself because of some complications and the doctor went and meet Mr. Tanimu and told him about the situation his wife was in and that a surgery must be conducted as soon as possible, if not he is afraid they might lose her. Tanimu was freighted and afraid hearing of his wife’s condition and he told the doctor that let the surgery be carried out. The doctor then gives him some document to sign and that he should pay ten thousands for the surgery. Mr. Tanimu quickly went home because he had no money with him in the hospital and on reaching home he asked Nabeelah to give him ten thousand and she asked what was the money meant for and he told her that he co wife needs a surgery and as it stands he has no money. On hearing this Nabeelah refused to give him the money recounting how she almost lost her life during child birth because Mami refused to call him or even take her to the hospital. Seeing that his wife Nabeelah was not willing to give him the money he quickly ran to his friends house and narrated everything to his friend, on hearing this his friend had pity on him and gave him the money. Then Mr. Tanimu ran back to the hospital and paid the bills and immediately Mami was taken to the theater room and the surgery was carried out and she give birth to a bouncing baby boy, but the doctor said they have to spend at least one week in the hospital so that she can be taken care of properly until she recover fully. So Mr. Tanimu agreed to stay in the hospital for the stipulated time. After one week they were discharged from the hospital and Tanimu took mami and his new born son home and there was jubilation in their house. Family members and relatives from far came to celebrate with them and Mr. Tanimu was very happy because now he has a son someone who will inherit him after his death and Tanim heart was draw to Mami because she gave him a son and Nabeelah was very angry because she was despised just because she had a daughter. The children grew with hatred amongst them because of their mothers and they were sent to the same school. Aishatu was in primary five and Ahmed was in primary four and their father will come pick them when ever school closes. Aishatu was very intelligent and she always scores first position in her class since nursery one up to primary five but Ahmed was very dull and were among the bottom feeders in their class. Whenever their result were given to them, their father will always buy a gift for Aishatu leaving Ahmed with nothing because he did not perform well, so Ahmed began to envy his step sister. One day, Mr. Tanimu was invited to a wedding ceremony in their village and he told his wives that they should prepare he will be going with them to the wedding. Mami told her husband that she needs a new dress so she can wear it to the occasion and Tanimu said she should not worry that he is going to buy one for her when he is returning home tomorrow. On the morrow he went out and while returning he bought the dress that Mami said as promised and also bought one for Nabeelah and when he returned home he called his wives and give them the dress but Mami was not happy because Tanimu bought the same dress for the both of them. On the day of the ceremony they all prepared and went for the wedding leaving their children at home. While their parents left for the wedding Aishatu went into her room and slept off, when Ahmed noticed that Aishatu was fast asleep. He went into the kitchen and ate all the meat that his mother left in the pot and went out to play with his friends. After the wedding ceremony, Tanimu and his wives went home. On reaching home. Tanimu asked Mami to serve him some food that he was hungry because the food share during the wedding was not enough for the guest. So Mami went to the kitchen surprisingly when she opened the pot of soup there was not meat in it and she shouted, when the husband heard he quickly rushed to the kitchen thinking something might have happened to her, when he got there she told him that there was no meat in the pot and he was furious and went out angrily and asked Aishatu and Ahmed to meet him in the living room and when they came in he asked Aishatu who took the meat and she said she didn’t know. So he asked Ahmed and he said it was Aishatu that took the meat that he even saw her while she was taking the meat and the father turns toward Aishatu and began to flog her with koboko and Ahmed was busy laughing at her, so she cried and wiped her tears, so she told her mother everything that happened and she comforted her. Nabeelah went and meet Tanimu tell him what he did was wrong that why will he beat up her daughter without proper investigation and Tanimu was angry at Nabeelah and said to her what right does she have to talk to him like that and if she did not leave his presence she will not like what he will do to her, so she left crying. Ahmed told his mother all what happened, how he planned everything and his mother was very happy with him and brought some sweets and cake for him. There came a time when the village hunters agreed and decided to go hunting to a far land and Tanimu was among the group of hunters. So he told his wives that he and the group of hunters will be travelling to a far land for hunting and that they will spend one month and they all agreed. Mr. Tanimu besought his wives never to fight in his absence or allow their children to fight that they should leave in peace and harmony. Tanimu went to his friend and informed him of the journey and that he should take good care of his family, his friend assured him that he will try his possible best to take good care of his family and they both hugged and Tanimu went back home. The day came when Tanimu and the group of hunters had set to embark on the journey and he hugged his wives and children and left for the land. Later in the evening his friend visited Tanimu’s family and Nabeelah was not around, so Mami welcomed him warmly and took him to her room and they made love and he went back to his house and when Nabeelah came back home for she was absent when he visited Mami refused to tell her that their husband friend came while she was not around in order to keep it a secret not knowing that Aishatu have seen the man when he came and what they did. Aishatu told her mother thather father friend came during the day and her step mother took him to her room and they spent about an hour together in the room. Her mother was shocked to hear that and she confronted her co-wife but she denied it, stating that she will deal with Aishatu if she lie again against her. so Nabeelah kept these things to herself. After a month Tanimu came back home together with the group of hunters and was welcomed by his wives and children and relatives and they celebrated together. One week later Mami told Tanimu that she was pregnant and Tanimu was surprised knowing fully that he did not sleep with her before he embarked on the journey. Nabeelah told her husband how his friend came to the house and Mami took him to her room and they spent time in, on hearing this Tanimu arose with anger and went and meet Mami and asked her who is the father of her unborn child and she said its him then he slapped her and asked her the second time and she said it is his friend that got her pregnant and that triggered Tanimu to question the paternity of Ahmed and he took Ahmed to the hospital for a DNA test and the test was carried out and he found her that Ahmed was not his biological son. So when he got home he divorced Mami and sent her away with his son and reported his friend to the police and his friend was prosecuted and found guilty and was sentenced to five years in prison.
